Amazon Web Services has featured Voxelis in its Canada’s AI Innovators series, with a case study titled “Voxelis AI: Giving wildfire crews the eyes they need to save lives”.

The story starts with the problem: more than 8,000 wildfires burn about 2.1 million hectares across Canada every year, according to Natural Resources Canada, and most helicopters on the front lines carry no onboard technology to help airborne crews or incident commanders understand what is happening on the ground.

The case study walks through how VoxVision closes that gap — a smart, bowling-ball-size device retrofitted onto a helicopter, controlled from a mobile device in the cockpit, with every data point automatically tagged by time, location, and user. Thermal scans, environmental readings, and AI-generated insights flow through AWS infrastructure to pilots, ground crews, incident commanders, and provincial wildfire agencies in near real time. It also highlights how our team uses Kiro, AWS’s agentic development environment, to ship capabilities to the front lines while the fire season is still active. “Features that used to take months are now shipping in weeks,” said Voxelis CEO Colin O’Neill.

Voxelis appears alongside eight other Canadian companies in the series, introduced on About Amazon in “Meet AWS Canada’s AI Innovators” (June 26, 2026), with companion sponsor content in The Globe and Mail.
